For decades, federal courts have held that federal civil rights laws protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in the work place. What is now presented to the court is whether sexual orientation and gender identity should continue to be protected under federal civil rights laws. If the court issues a ruling that concludes LGBTQ people are not protected, those members of our community will lose protections that they have today. The HRC and other organizations have been working for years to advance what we call non-discrimination ordinances and statues in all states.
